Abstract Submission

Abstract submissions are no longer being accepted for ICAR2023.

Late-Breaker Abstracts

A limited number of oral and poster presentations will be reserved for abstracts containing the most recent data with cutting edge implications and impact. Submit your abstract now through the online submission system.

  • A late-breaking abstract submission for an oral or poster should contain late-breaking, high quality research for which no preliminary data were available at the time of the prior abstract submission deadlines.  The research must be new and of sufficient scientific importance to merit special consideration after the standard abstract deadlines.
  • Abstracts that have already been accepted for ICAR2023 are not eligible for consideration.
  • Late-breaking abstracts cannot be a revision of an abstract submitted prior to the submission deadline.
  • Late-breaking abstracts are not eligible to participate in the PechaKucha or Poster Awards competitions.

    Abstract Details

We welcome short oral presentations and posters describing the activity of well-defined chemical compounds for the treatment of viral diseases of humans and vertebrate animals and on the protective activity of vaccines for humans.  Reports of the antiviral effect of a novel small-molecule drug are encouraged to include chemical structures, as long as such reporting does not negatively impact the potential development of novel antivirals.  Claims of in vitro or in vivo efficacy of a drug or vaccine must be supported by appropriate statistical analysis.  We discourage the submission of abstracts reporting the antiviral activity of unpurified natural products, or of partially purified substances.  Abstracts claiming an antiviral effect of homeopathic products or other highly diluted preparations, or which fail to clearly identify the biological ingredient or molecule responsible for the antiviral activity of an experimental therapy, will be rejected.  Presentations on antiseptics with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity will not be considered.  We also discourage talks or posters on silicodocking studies or other computer-based predictions of antiviral activity that are not supported by data from biological assays.

    Submission tracks for ICAR2023 are:

    • Acute GI Viruses
    • Arboviruses
    • Broad Spectrum Antiviral Drugs, Biothreat Viruses, and Pandemic Preparedness
    • Chronic Hepatitis Viruses
    • Coronaviruses, Influenza, RSV, and Other Respiratory Viruses
    • Herpesviruses, Adenoviruses, Papillomaviruses
    • HIV and Other Retroviruses

    Presentation Formats

    • Short Oral Presentations - Authors who elect to be considered for an oral presentation must plan to present onsite in Lyon.  Should your abstract be selected for an oral presentation, you will be requested to confirm your in-person presentation plans no later than January 16, 2023.

    • Poster Presentations - Authors have the option to present in a poster session onsite in Lyon or present a virtual-only poster.  If you are attending the conference in Lyon, it is expected that you will present your poster in-person and upload a virtual poster.  Upon receiving your abstract acceptance notification, you will be requested to confirm your attendance plans (onsite or virtual) no later than January 16, 2023.  All accepted poster presenters (onsite and virtual) will be required to submit their virtual posters no later than February 20, 2023

What is the difference between a virtual poster and onsite poster?

    About the ICAR2023 Program

In-person and virtual programming options will be available for ICAR2023 .  The onsite meeting in Lyon will include oral and poster sessions, plenary talks, ISAR awardee lectures and several special sessions and networking events.  The oral sessions will be recorded and available to all registered attendees on the virtual platform for on-demand viewing.  All accepted posters will be available via the virtual platform with online Q&A chat boards to promote discussion. All on-demand content will be available through April 17, 2023.

    Abstract Submission Process

    • We are using a NEW abstract submission platform run by Cvent!  As a result, everyone will need to create a new account as your prior account information will not carry forward.
    • Abstracts must be submitted online and will not be accepted in any other manner.
    • Abstract title is limited to 250 characters.  Abstract body is limited to 1700 characters to include spacing. The system will automatically impose these restrictions when you enter your abstract.

    • During the submission process you will be able to indicate your interest in participating in the Poster Awards Competition, PechaKucha Competition and Travel Awards.

    • Oral presentations will be selected only from the initial submission period, which ends at 12:00 PM ET (Noon) on November 22nd. The site will reopen on November 28th and remain open through January 18th, but acceptance during this period will only be for poster presentations. Poster submissions during this time are still eligible to compete for the Poster Awards (indicate interest during the submission process).
    • To be considered for an oral presentation, the PechaKucha Competition or a Travel Award, you MUST submit an abstract by the November 22nd deadline.
    • If you need to apply for a visa and need early notification, you MUST submit an abstract by November 1st in order to receive early notification.  Abstracts submitted after November 1st will be sent notifications on December 16th.
