About the ICAR2026 Program

ICAR2026 will be an in-person meeting.  No virtual participation options will be available.  The meeting in Prague, Czech Republic will include oral and poster sessions, plenary talks, ISAR awardee lectures and several special sessions and networking events.  All accepted posters will have the option (although highly encouraged) to upload a virtual poster to the online platform which will be available to registered attendees.  All poster award competition participants will be required to upload an electronic poster prior to the conference.

Abstract Details

  • We welcome short oral presentations and posters describing the activity of defined chemical compounds for the treatment of viral diseases of humans and other vertebrate animals and on the protective or therapeutic activity of vaccines for humans and other vertebrate animals.
  • Reports of the antiviral effect of novel molecules, synthetic or natural, are encouraged to include chemical structures, as long as such reporting does not negatively impact the potential development of novel antivirals.
  • Claims of in vitro or in vivo efficacy of a drug or vaccine must be properly supported by appropriate statistical analyses.
  • We encourage the submission of abstracts describing the use of AI/ML/computational biology, large data or mathematical modeling validated by experimental data.  We discourage abstracts on purely silico docking studies or other computer-based predictions of antiviral activity unsupported by data from biological assays.
  • We will not consider abstracts reporting the antiviral activity of unpurified extracts or natural products, or insufficiently purified substances.
  • Abstracts claiming any antiviral effect of homeopathic products or other highly diluted preparations or which fail to clearly identify the biological ingredient or molecule responsible for the antiviral activity will be rejected.
  • Presentations on antiseptics with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity will not be considered.

    Presentation Options

All presenters (oral and/or posters) must plan to present onsite in Prague.

    • SHORT ORAL PRESENTATIONS -  There are a limited number of short oral presentation slots available.  Abstracts must be submitted by the January 9th deadline to be considered for an oral presentation.  Short oral presentations are 10-minutes in length (8-minutes talk; 2-minutes Q&A).
    • POSTER PRESENTATIONS - All accepted poster presenters will be expected to print and display their poster, and present their poster during both poster sessions.  Poster presenters also have the option (although highly encouraged) to submit an electronic poster for viewing in the online platform which will be available to registered attendees .  Note that all poster award competition participants will be required to upload an electronic poster prior to the conference.

      Abstract Submission Process

      • When first logging in, you will need to create an account.  You will be able to use this single account to submit abstracts for any of the submission phases.
      • Abstracts must be submitted online and will not be accepted in any other manner.
      • Abstract title is limited to 250 characters.  Abstract body is limited to 250 words. The system will automatically impose these restrictions when you enter your abstract.

      • During the submission process you will be able to indicate your interest in participating in the Poster Awards Competition, PechaKucha Competition and Travel Awards.

      • Oral presentations will be selected only from the initial submission period, which ends on January 9th. The site will reopen on January 15th and remain open through February 20th, but acceptance during this period will only be for poster presentations. Poster submissions during this time are still eligible to compete for the Poster Awards (indicate interest during the submission process).
      • To be considered for an oral presentation, the PechaKucha Competition or a Travel Award, you MUST submit an abstract by the January 9th deadline.
      • If you need to apply for a visa and need early notification, you MUST submit an abstract by December 5, 2025.  Abstracts submitted after December 5th will be sent notifications on February 9th.

      Poster Awards Competition Submission Details

A regular feature of ICAR is the judging of posters by a designated committee and the award of cash prizes.  For your poster to be entered in the competition, you must indicate your interest during the abstract submission process, following the instructions below:

      1. Login to the submission site to start your abstract submission.
      2. When asked if you would like to be considered for a Poster Award, select "Yes”.
      3. Answer the subsequent questions.
      4. Further details will be provided after abstract acceptance notifications have been sent. Please note that you will be required to submit an electronic poster prior to the Conference
      5. If an author is selected for an oral presentation, and would like to also compete for a Poster Award, the author should notify ICAR Staff and prepare a poster to present at the meeting.

Please note that poster award participants may also be selected to present a "shotgun" talk which takes place on the final day of the conference.  An invitation to present a "shotgun" talk is typically sent shortly after the final poster session.

      Late-breaking Abstracts (opens March 2, 2026)

A limited number of oral and poster presentations will be reserved for abstracts containing the most recent data with cutting edge implications and impact.  Please consider the below items if submitting a late-breaking abstract.

      • A late-breaking abstract submission for an oral or poster should contain late-breaking, high quality research for which no preliminary data were available at the time of the prior abstract submission deadlines. The research must be new and of sufficient scientific importance to merit special consideration after the standard abstract deadlines.
      • Abstracts that have already been accepted for ICAR2025 are not eligible for consideration.
      • Late-breaking abstracts cannot be a revision of an abstract submitted prior to the submission deadline.
      • Late-breaking abstracts are not eligible to participate in the PechaKucha or Poster Awards competitions.
      • Presenters should not be changed once the late-breaking abstract has been accepted.
