President’s Message September 2021
As we head into the final quarter of the year, I would like to take a moment to applaud all our Society members who have worked diligently to advance research for antiviral drugs and vaccines to improve human health. As we continue to navigate our second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen many of our Society members continue to rise to the challenge to discover and develop critical agents to prevent and combat this disease. Equally important are the many Society members who are working as diligently to discover and advance therapeutics and prophylactics for the many other human viral diseases. Whether focusing on SARS-CoV-2 or other human viral pathogens, our Society members have continued to make impressive strides this year.
I look forward to seeing many of you in person at ICAR2022 in Seattle, March 21-25. ICAR will once again be a live event offering both in-person and virtual programming options for those unable to travel. We will continue to monitor the global situation and make adjustments as needed. The abstract submission site opens September 20th, and the entire list of important dates can be found on the Society website. Additionally, look for emails with key information. Please take the time to spread the word amongst colleagues to expand attendance at the meeting.
Hopefully, you noted the email announcing the call for ISAR award nominations. Please take a moment to nominate outstanding candidates for each of our awards including the Gertrude Elion, William Prusoff, Antonin Holy, Women in Science, and Diversity Speaker awards. This is a tremendous opportunity to acknowledge individuals who are making or who have made significant contributions to the field. The deadline for nominations is September 30.
As President of ISAR, I am continually, but not surprisingly, amazed to see the tremendous value each of you bring forward with your ground-breaking research. ICAR2022 will again allow many of us the opportunity to share our work with each other in person and continue the strong, collaborative and supportive work of our Society. In the meantime, please stay safe and we will see each other soon!
Sincerely,
Kara Carter
President, ISAR
