Prof. Antonin Holý

Antonin Holý was a pioneering Czech Scientist who specialized in the field of Chemistry and worked on the development of important antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis B. He started to work in the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) in 1960, after graduating from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at the Charles University in Prague with an organic chemistry degree. Eventually, Dr. Holý headed the IOCB’s research of new substances financed by Gilead Sciences. Dr. Holý had more than 60 patents to his name and was the author of over 600 scientific papers. In 2002, Dr. Holý received the EU Descartes Award for Scientific research and holds honorary degrees from several universities at home and abroad. ICAR thanks Dr. Holý for his profound contribution to our field. In honor of Dr. Holý ICAR is organizing a mini symposium dedicated to his legacy on May 12, 2013.
