Lab manager virology laboratory
RetroVirox is seeking a lab manager to work in a virology laboratory specialized in the optimization of cell-based assays and high throughput screening of lead antivirals. The company runs internal discovery projects and offers its screening services to Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies worldwide. The lab manager will be in charge of maintaining the functionality of an infectious disease laboratory and ensuring the day-to-day GLP operations of its facilities and equipment. Candidates are expected to display excellent organization and recording skills and have experience running a molecular biology laboratory. This position is available immediately, and eligible to US citizens or permanent residents only.
Ensure proper functioning of a molecular virology laboratory
Maintain and test laboratory equipment following GLP methods
Maintain supplies and reagents databases
Submit purchase requests, negotiate orders, handle receiving, stocking and inventory of supplies
Manage and propagate as needed our repository of viral stocks and cell lines
Perform QC and shipping of reagents as needed
Facilitate the timely completion of the company’s programs and assist other scientists as needed
Monitor and evaluate established protocols and recommend implementation of new policies and
Educate and train new staff in GLP compliance and implementation of biosafety, recording, SOPs
and other laboratory guidelines
Bachelor’s degree (molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, microbiology, human biology, cell biology, immunology or biotechnology)
2+ years experience running a molecular biology laboratory (industry experience is a plus)

Research Group Leader: Istituto Pasteur of Rome, New Laboratory

The Istituto Pasteur of Rome - the Italian member of the Pasteur International Network - is a growing institution promoting studies of the mechanisms that regulate the fundamental processes of life and disease. The Istituto Pasteur offers a fertile environment for research cooperation between different disciplines and within the international network of Pasteur institutes. The Institute has thirty years of experience in funding research projects at Sapienza University of Rome and is now expanding to create a new independent laboratory, located within the university facilities, with access to infrastructures and research technical equipment of Sapienza University of Rome.
Required qualifications: Candidates are expected to have relevant postdoctoral training and an outstanding record of internationally competitive research accomplishments in their field. Applicants with a position at the Sapienza University of Rome will not be considered.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will initiate an independent and creative research program, selecting and supervising PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. These scientists will optimize and validate novel in vitro assays to evaluate inhibitors of virus replication and infection against a variety of human pathogens. Southern Research Institute
Position Title: Program Leader, Emerging Pathogens
Reports to: Director – IDR-Frederick
FLSA Status: Exempt
The Emerging Pathogens Program in Frederick’s Infectious Disease Research facility provides pre-clinical vaccine and drug development research expertise to commercial, government and academic clients. The Program has strength’s in a variety of animal models, a well-established IACUC and operates within BSL-3, A/BSL-3, BSL-2, and A/BSL-2 levels of containment. Currently, the Program offers clients scientific expertise in virology, molecular biology and immunology and provides a range of laboratory research services focused on drug and vaccine evaluation of product candidates directed against CDC select agents and pathogens of commercial interest. We work closely with clients in designing customized protocols and procedures focused on providing research data that meet client requirements including FDA GLP regulated studies where required.
The Program Leader is responsible for the overall Emerging Pathogens Program and is responsible for initiating collaborations across the Southern Research organization to provide robust solutions to client requirements. This position leads the technical concept planning and experiment design for a customer solution, applying new or advanced technologies as appropriate. This position has direct reports and is responsible for managing performance and mentoring project leaders in the program.
The Program Leader will have a solid international reputation in infectious disease research focusing on virology, antivirals and/or vaccines and be experienced in the development or utilization of animal models of human diseases. An extensive publication record combined with a demonstrated ability to win government funding is required.
·Plan staff, budget, and direct multiple programs to ensure the timely delivery of contractual commitments to clients / customers. Programs are complex and require analysis and in-depth evaluation. Scope will range from $1 million to $5 million
·Respond to commercial and government funding opportunities and is recognized internally as integral to revenue generation
·Participates in all required GLP training for Study Directors and Technical Personnel prior to initiation of GLP studies.
·Ensures documentation of successful completion of required GLP training.
·Serves in the capacity of Study Director and/or Principal Investigator and will be the single point of control on the assigned studies and is responsible for:
- The overall technical conduct of the study
- Interpretation, analysis, documentation, and reporting of results
- Issuance of study protocols and amendments, and ensuring that they are followed
- Following GLP practices to ensure that all experimental data, including observations of unanticipated responses are accurately recorded and verified
- Ensuring that all unforeseen circumstances that may effect the quality and integrity of a study are noted when they occur, and corrective action is taken and documented
- Maintains relationship with customer or client through delivery of contract terms.
- Using project management methodology ensures that client projects are effectively managed. Ensures quality of product or service delivered; manages project budget and project risk factors. Has accountability for overseeing monthly program status updates. Will manage a recovery project should it be necessary.
